50 STORIES 50 YEARS: THE CHOCTAW COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL
Choctaw County Arts Council – Hugo, Choctaw County | 501(c)(3) Non-profit | http://choctawcountyartscouncil.com/
The Choctaw County Arts Council brings performances by compelling artists like Jana Jae, the First Lady of Fiddling, to Choctaw County through the Oklahoma Arts Council’s support.
Located over 150 miles from both of the state major cultural centers (OKC & Tulsa), Choctaw County has built an infrastructure for arts experiences in their own community. Oklahoma Arts Council funding makes this possible by providing arts experience such as concerts, encouraging young people that Choctaw County is full of livelihood neighborhoods where they can build their lives, and making the county an attractive option for growing businesses.
Without funding from the Oklahoma Arts Council, the Choctaw County Arts Council would be hard pressed to fulfill their responsibility to grow the investments they have made in their community. And many area citizens would lose a lively element in their neighborhood and a valuable connection to their neighbors.
This story celebrates 50 years of the Oklahoma Arts Council and how the state’s investments have positive ripple effects on communities across Oklahoma. See other stories or follow this link for more information.
