HB3028 Clears Committee; Heads to House Floor

As early as Monday, HB3028 could be voted on by the full Oklahoma House of Representatives. If it passes the House and Senate, the Oklahoma Arts Council and the Oklahoma Historical Society would be consolidated under the Oklahoma Department of Tourism.

In order to preserve the Oklahoma Arts Council’s independent status as a stand-alone state agency, arts advocates must aggressively advocate against this bill. The Board of Directors of Oklahomans for the Arts strongly urges advocates do two things. First, contact your house member. Click here to find his or her contact information if you don’t know it. (Scroll down to the “Find My Legislator” dialogue box.) After you do that, please contact the following three representatives who hold key leadership positions in the House of Representatives. They are:

Governor Thanks Committee for Action on HB3028
To underscore how serious this situation is, Governor Fallin issued a statement yesterday praising the Government Modernization Committee for taking action on HB3028. Click here to read it. The situation is serious and we will need all advocates working to defeat this legislation.
