ARTS EDUCATION

Oklahomans for the Arts believes every child in Oklahoma should have access to quality arts education and arts curriculum taught by a qualified teacher. We believe arts education should be ongoing and meaningful and tied to learning in other critical subjects like English, science and math.

It is also important to make arts education part of your advocacy efforts. Here are some things you can do to help make sure the arts are part of core curriculum in your local school.

  • Start with the principal at your local school. What is the status of arts education? Is there a dedicated teacher?

  • Contact your local school board member. Find out where they stand on arts education. Find your school board representatives by calling your local school board or check online.

  • Become your school's arts advocate on the parent-teacher council. Ask for an arts-related update at every meeting.

  • See Americans for the Arts for more resources about arts education advocacy.

In my own philanthropy and business endeavors, I have seen the critical role that the arts play in stimulating creativity and in developing vital communities....the arts have a crucial impact on our economy and are an important catalyst for learning, discovery, and achievement in our country.
